Many times an individual has specific seating needs that require custom modifications of their seating system due to changes in the individual's orthopedic asymmetries or positioning. Customizations can be addressed during the ordering process or in the clinic on standard cushions and backs. This course will discuss modification of standard cushions and backs.

Course Description: Many times an individual has specific seating needs that require custom modifications of their seating system due to changes in the individual's orthopedic asymmetries or positioning. Customizations can be addressed during the ordering process or in the clinic on standard cushions and backs. This course will discuss modification of standard cushions and backs.

Target Audience; PTs, PTAs, OT, OTAs, ATP, CRT-Beginner to intermediate

Objectives:
1. At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to propose and articulate the importance of at least three measurements to be taken of a client in need of a custom seating system and wheeled mobility device.
2. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to compare and contrast at least four different materials used in wheelchair cushions and backs that impact positioning and pressure relief.
3. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to design a plan for selecting the most appropriate seating system for an individual with a common postural asymmetry (i.e. posterior pelvic tilt, anterior pelvic tilt, pelvic obliquity, pelvic rotation, scoliosis, or windswept deformity).
4. At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to articulate the clinical application of at least five customization that can be made to a standard cushion or back support.
