This session will review assessment criteria required for recommendation of a successful ultra-light rigid wheelchair (K0005). Key measurements as well as functional considerations help to determine optimal configuration pertaining to the frame dimensions and wheel placement. We will follow a rider through the evaluation and procurement process from start to finish to demonstrate optimal configuration for best functional outcomes.

This one-hour session covers the essentials of how to recommend an appropriately fitted rigid frame wheelchair based on specific client body measurements, clinical presentation, and desired functional outcomes. The course content focuses on rigid frame wheelchair configuration along with design elements to be considered specific to the individual. 

Air Travel with a wheelchair is an important topic for anyone working in the profession of wheelchairs and seating. we are often the first professionals who may have the topic of travel come up. It is important for us to understand the airpott and airline processes. Providing information on safe positioning in the aircraft seat as well as protecting the wheelchair being stored will help the rider and family have an successful uneventful trip. Topics will include the report of damage to wheelchairs by US airlines, governmental regulations, airline involvement, what the rider can do to protect a chair, and what research has done for the future possibility of flying with a wheelchair in the cabin.

This course will focus on improving your skills and confidence for assessment, intervention and education for manual wheelchair users in regards to upper extremity preservation.  Clinically applicable research for prevention of overuse injuries via shoulder screening, activity modification and considerations with wheelchair service delivery will positively impact the wheelchair professional's practice and the functional independence of the consumer.  

This one-hour session provides an overview of how tilt wheelchairs can be used to enhance pressure distribution, posture, function, and participation. It will discuss decision making criteria to determine why a specific tilt base would be chosen and what angles could be used to meet goals.
