This presentation will define the ON Time Mobility Framework and apply it to an exploration of both traditional and emerging views of ‘readiness’ for powered mobility to support young children with motor disabilities. We will center discussion on themes co-created with individuals with lived experience with powered mobility to define and apply a new approach: one that is centered in mobility equity, challenges traditional, ableist views of child ‘readiness’, and frames powered mobility as a powerful developmental and social intervention. Participants will identify practical shifts in clinical practice and device design that broaden the concept of ‘readiness’ beyond the child. Practice changes are critical as clinical, medical and industry professions are in positions of power to recommend or withhold power mobility as an option for young children.
